I’m about to hire my first employee. What do I need to do?

Answer: Hiring employees gives your business the potential to grow exponentially. It also makes your business much more complicated. You will need to get both a state and a federal employer ID number, register your employees with the state, begin the payroll process (including withholding taxes from your employees’ paychecks) and file payroll taxes for both the state and the IRS. You’ll also need to procure workers’ compensation insurance, post the required notices in your workplace, provide certain informational materials to your employees, and issue them a W-2 at year-end. It can be a daunting process that we can help you with.
